Most furnace calls start the same way: the house is cold and the thermostat is asking for heat the furnace will not give. We check the simple things first, the thermostat, the filter, the condensate switch, because a surprising number of no-heat calls end right there. When the problem runs deeper, we test the igniter, the flame sensor, the gas valve, and the control board, then tell you plainly what failed and what the fix costs before we touch it.
Call when the furnace stops keeping up, cycles on and off every few minutes, or makes a noise it did not make last winter. You approve the quote before the work starts, and if the unit is near the end of its life we will say so instead of selling you a repair that will not hold.
